Even in the tranquil forest of Moonglade, Watrus can be found shooting something.
Wherever she feels like
Watrus is an eccentric Darkspear troll, who has taken up the lifestyle of a hunter. Though loyal to the Horde and to her own tribe, her desire for independance and need for self-challenge means her ability to follow orders can be strained.
Watrus' involvement in the Great Hunt means she sees her role in nature as being part of it by way of hunting or exploring, as opposed to merely observing.
For the most part Watrus is a fairly cheerful creature, treating many with equality and patience and endeavouring to see the good in all Horde races.
However, due to suffering a manic depression her behaviour and reaction to events or comments can be completely unpredictable. This can also lead to her forming and holding on to deep grudges as quickly and eagerly as she may form close friendships.
Watrus, regardless of how she may act, is a woman at 25 years of age. She stands at a height that is slightly taller than average for females of her kind, but not enough to be truly noticable or even inspire any thought. Her sandy-blonde hair may not be an immediately noticable colour but due to its length she can pull it into more intimidating styles, though she seldom does so due to prefering it kept out of her face during a hunt. The usual blue of her fur also fails to stand out in any crowd. She is clearly proud of her tusks, having allowed them to grow as long as possible; likely hoping that they will help detract from what she sneeringly calls 'a soft face'.
Watrus' body has become stockier due to her constant need to lift heavy things (fallen animals probably don't have the weight of cushions) and her work as an engineer. Her hips are wider than is normal and though this inspires joking she doesn't seem at all phased by her overall shape. Despite assumed stereotype, she has a consideration and care for her personal hygiene.
She wears her own created jewelleries; dried deviate fish decorate her hair, a variety of smelted down curved metals adorn her ears and around her neck she is in possession of two necklaces. One a slither of metal tied to a string, the other a small wooden carving in the vague shape of a woman.
Her armour is seldom cared for beyond what is necessary, but her guns are always kept at their very best. They too may be decorated by a variety of handmade trinkets and adornments, most noticably cracked troll tusks and segments of animal skulls.
A pure-blooded darkspear troll, Watrus took up the path of the hunter as soon as females of her kind were given their liberation. She begun her training in the Valley of Trials amongst her own people but her inability to use the bows she was provided with caused her a great deal of mockery and humiliation. Her determination to prove her role saw her moving on the Mulgore where she was taught the usage of guns as well as the ideals of the 'Great Hunt' which has become the focus of a lifestyle; hunting to Watrus is not just for food and necessity, but for sport and the thrills it provides.
In terms of military Watrus may describe herself more as a gunwoman than as a stalker or scout. Though she is capable of such activities if pushed they are not her focus. When aiding infiltration or assaults she prefers to be part of the loud and manic firepower than taking the subtler approaches.
Her working with animals has however caused Watrus to pick up more beastly mannerisms such as hissing when annoyed or expressing shock with a loud bark.
After her successful exploration of Mulgore, followed by the Barrens in which she found her faithful companion Vondila, Watrus decided that her biggest dream was to find and truly get to know as much of the wide world as she could. Going wherever her feet take her, Watrus has seen deep jungles, zipped across seemingly never ending deserts and found all manner of treasure and trinkets. Though she is not a soldier her journeys frequently take her to the areas of conflict and she manages to aid the Horde or their allies whenever she can. Mostly because this ensures she has a fairly tolerable place to sleep before she moves on to the next area of adventure.
Watrus has also looked into the practice of tinkering. Her lack of any magical prowess has inspired her to examine the workings of machinery and technology. Unfortunately, while she has shown a fair ability in copying schematics that are written and devised by other tinkerers she has not yet shown any skill or initiative in inventing or imagining up devices of her own. The things she does manage to create are not particularly useful, or even always functional.
She does use a large variety of her creations when on her travels, from her proudest machine the Mechano-Hog to the Incredibly Safe Transporter, the fuel-propelled boots of fast and the parachute cloak it seems she has only taken up engineering believing it to be a sort of comedy.
A sergeant of Dagger and Totem. Signed up to the guild somewhat unwillingly, she continues to aid them in conflict despite her grudges and apparent dislike for the clan. She would actively reject her role as sergeant believing it was unearned but is becoming more accepting of and suited to it as time goes on.
Vondila, a hecklefang hyena originally from the Barrens, was tamed by Watrus when she slowly managed to gain the creature's trust during her time working for the Horde set up in the Crossroads. Vondila has proven to be a worthwhile and faithful companion, causing Watrus to believe that they are the ideal hunter's animal. She has been brought on all the following journeys, and has grown stronger, smarter and... cuddlier?
Of course, being a hyena, her primary interests are just food, scratching herself, sniffing things and the comedy of Perry Gatner.
A large hyena; with a clean coat, a well fed appearance and strong looking jaws. She is clearly an animal of great strength, only in the prime of her life. The mean-spirited may joke she has more intelligence than her owner.
Watrus' childhood may seem fairly normal and typical for children of her tribe. The first real influential moment was her mother leaving her in the care of her father and uncle when Watrus was only three years old. Her mother had chosen a name for the child but had not blessed her with it and thus she instead earned her current name. She never quite found out what happened to her mother, and hasn't cared to find any information.
Watrus grew up on the Darkspear Isles with her sister Uliif, her Uncle, her father and his mother whom was affectionately called 'Nana'. The family was a slight way nearer to the island's coasts in a smaller village.
Watrus was a rather curious child as children tend to be, spending most of her time exploring the areas away from the huts or, when older and braver, walking down to the beaches and playing there. Lacking friends, she played alone; inventing stories and situations for herself, and forcing any poor crab or shellfish that she found to act in the supporting cast only to then be brought home as pets. She would often attempt to listen in on stories told to the male children or to join their games but was often shoo'd away. At some point in her childhood she earned the accusation of being "a male spirit in the body of a female".
On the month that contained her 17th birthday, a ceremony was to occur in which she, along with two other troll girls, would be claimed an adult and given to a male as a mate. Watrus in her ceremonial finery instead spent that evening hiding in the trees and watching the proceedings continue without her. Though she was later pulled in to a similar ceremony and given her adult status she was considered too hysterical to be made a wife, and her family continued to receive the shame and mockery of these actions from other tribe members.
The Isles coming under heavy attack from human settlers and, of all things, murlocs changed the lives of the Darkspear in such a major way that her previous misbehaviour was largely forgotten and ignored. When aiding in the settling in Echo Isles, and later Sen'jin village Watrus soon cut from the tribe and moved on to the Valley of Trials to train up as a hunter.
Her seemingly lifelong desire for female liberation was finally answered by the Horde, who ordered her tribe's women have the same treatment as those of the orc or tauren clans. This has shaped a large part of her motivation; with her pushed on to try and inspire other women of her tribe to take advantage of this new situation as she did. These ideals have caused her to seem somewhat seperated from her tribe, and the memories of her rejection of her own adult ceremony have meant she is not as much respected back at home as she'd like. Treatment that is perhaps becoming lesser over time.
Hethetka claims herself the hyena loa of womanhood. She attacked Watrus with nightmares and visions after becoming enraged that Watrus was using her chosen animal as a companion, seemingly expressing her ideals of female equality and empowerment but allowing herself to be trodden on and to hold and form grudges that made her seem weak and unrespectable by her peers. Ordering that she shape up Hethetka finally allowed Watrus a dreamless sleep.
Since then Watrus has endeavoured to find herself with Hethetka's favour and blessings with ritual, acknowledgement and the occasional offering. Though she somewhat fears the loa's wrath she is grateful to finally be spoken to by one.
Watrus despises the term 'huntress' believing it to be similar to the word 'zufli'; a mocking term applied to female witchdoctors of the jungle tribes.
She still practices cannibalism, albeit not of Horde races/tribes. She does not do so quite as casually, but more if in desperate need to, as a form of ritual or beliving it to be the only way to be rid of an enemy.
Watrus doesn't like cats. She may warm to the smaller housecats, however.
She once regenerated her right leg back after a particularly nasty ambush in the Hellfire Peninsula. Though she did recover if under enough strain a limp becomes noticable and the weaker muscles will occasionally fail her.
Watrus has a fear of bees, brought on by an allergic reaction she once suffered.
She can read and write fairly well and enjoys most forms of fiction, though will admit to prefering picture books and fairy tales because of the whimsy.
